REPORT: NORWICH CITY 1-1 ROTHERHAM

NORWICH City had to settle for a point from their meeting with Rotherham United after it finished 1-1 at Carrow Road.

Once again the Canaries dominated the ball and made the most chances throughout the game, but they only converted one through Cameron Jerome late in the second half.

Paul Green had given the Millers a surprise lead at the break from the penalty spot after John Ruddy's collision with Matt Derbyshire, and Neil Adams will have been left frustrated at the final whistle.

Adam Collin was on form for Rotherham, denying Jerome and Lewis Grabban with an incredible double-save in the first half.

The draw left City still perched at the top of Sky Bet Championship ahead of Nottingham Forest's meeting with Ipswich Town on Sunday.

Adams opted to make two changes from the midweek defeat to Charlton, with Jonny Howson making his first league start of the season in place of Alex Tettey and Jos Hooiveld replacing Steven Whittaker in defence.

Rotherham named City Academy graduate Richard Brindley in their starting eleven as they looked for their second win on the road in the league this season.

Their tactic of picking out target man Alex Revell was evident from the opening exchanges and it was the Millers who could have got the scoring underway on nine minutes when Kari Arnason headed down into Matt Derbyshire's feet in the six-yard box, but the striker's stab at goal was easy in the end for John Ruddy.

Bradley Johnson shot over with his weaker foot as the Canaries started to dominate the game; Cameron Jerome also swept an effort wide before seeing a glancing header flash across goal from Martin Olsson's cross.

Rotherham were receding further back into their half as the contest moved on and Jerome went even closer with another header, this time from Nathan Redmond's delivery.

Then three minutes before the break, however, Rotherham capitalised on some magnificent goalkeeping from Adam Collin to race up the other end and take the lead.

Collin initially kept out Lewis Grabban's header, but Jerome looked certain to score with the follow up only to see his shot somehow denied by the 'keeper and again by a Millers defender on the line.

Almost immediately, Rotherham broke clear with Derbyshire released down the left, and as Ruddy came to claim the ball he clattered into the striker, with the referee opting to award the penalty.

Ruddy was booked and Green stepped up to roll the ball into the corner and give his team an undeserved advantage at the break as City's run of games without a first half goal extended to seven.

HALF-TIME: Norwich City 0-1 Rotherham United

Grabban pushed a shot across goal three minutes into the second half after Hoolahan's pass, but even though City were still on top Rotherham were defending well, especially from set-pieces.

Hoolahan's sloppy pass on 57 minutes allowed Revell to slide in Derbyshire and Ruddy will have been grateful to see his shot fly just wide.

City were building momentum up the other end but they almost levelled in lucky circumstances when Grabban deflected substitute Kyle Lafferty's shot onto the post.

Collin parried Johnson's effort away but Rotherham almost doubled their lead, with City having Howson to thank as he hooked Craig Morgan's header off the line.

City then finally equalised with 13 minutes left on the clock, and it was Jerome who got it.

Lafferty's free-kick bounced across the area after hitting the inside of the post, and the striker was there to fire home, his seventh of the season.

Collin then held Redmond's header and Josh Murphy, on for Hoolahan, saw an angled drive flash wide.

The Canaries had almost everyone camped into Rotherham's box in the final stages but the visitors managed to hold on for a point.
