REPORT: CITY 5-0 HUDDERSFIELD

NORWICH City found their goalscoring touch in the second half to brush aside ten-man Huddersfield Town 5-0 at Carrow Road.

Bradley Johnson's poacher's effort seconds after half-time was the first of three Canaries goals in six minutes, Johnson bagging his second after Nathan Redmond's header.

Cameron Jerome then scored his tenth goal of the season before Lewis Grabban wrapped things up with City's fifth after a pass from the fit-again Wes Hoolahan.

Huddersfield were hindered by Murray Wallace's first-half sending off for a professional foul, and they could do nothing to stop a rampant City side after the break.

Three points lifted the Canaries to seventh place in the table with a televised trip to Derby County next up on Saturday December 20.

It was a case of sticking with a winning team for Neil Adams before kick-off, but Hoolahan returned to the squad, taking his place on the bench after nearly two months out with an ankle injury.

Ex-Canaries Jacob Butterfield and Grant Holt were in Chris Powell's starting eleven, with James Vaughan taking his place among the substitutes.

Johnson had two half chances before the game sprang into life after 12 minutes, with the visitors hitting the woodwork.

Nahki Wells' pace too him beyond City's defence on the left side of the box, and after John Ruddy spread himself big to keep out his original effort, Wells hit the rebound against the bar.

Just a few minutes later, however, the Terriers' cause was damaged when defender Wallace was dismissed.

Gary Hooper's hopeful punt up field was chased down by Jerome after Matt Hudson's missed interception, and Wallace hauled down the City striker, was deemed the last man and subsequently given his marching orders.

Norwich soon took control of the game and Alex Smithies had to be on his toes to keep out Hooper's header from Jonny Howson's cross before Howson himself shot wide from outside the box.

On 34 minutes, after continual pressure from the Canaries, Jerome squandered a clear opportunity when he headed Gary O'Neil deflected corner over the bar while standing free at the back post.

The influential Johnson picked out Hooper in the box soon afterwards, but the chance was gone after the ex-Celtic man couldn't get the ball under his control quickly enough.

Huddersfield remained camped in their own half but after Martin Olsson's ambitious volley the half-time whistle came to give both teams a chance to regroup.

HALF-TIME: Norwich City 0-0 Huddersfield Town

Both teams made changes at half-time, with Redmond replacing O'Neil for City and Paul Dixon stepping on for Wells for the visitors.

Less than a minute after Huddersfield had resumed the game, however, Norwich were ahead.

Hooper pounced on a loose ball in the box and played a clever backheel to Johnson, who could make no mistake and in turn lifted the tension around Carrow Road.

Relief turned to joy two minutes later when Redmond bagged his first goal of the season, looping a header over Smithies after some patient build-up play had allowed Olsson to deliver the cross.

Then to conclude an extraordinary period of the game, Johnson got his second on 51 minutes.

Smithies got a strong hand to Howson's well-executed volley, but the ball fell to the former Leeds man, who stooped low to head the rebound into the net.

Huddersfield settled and Tommy Smith's deflected shot forced Ruddy into a good stop but Redmond was back in the action almost immediately, testing Smithies at his near post.

On 69 minutes, Redmond was then allowed too much on the break, and the winger picked out Hooper at the back post.

Unselfishly, Hooper nodded the ball to Jerome, who scored his tenth goal of the season against his hometown club to seal the deal for the Canaries.

Grabban replaced the excellent Hooper and with his first touch scored to add City's fifth.

The striker timed his run to perfection to meet Hoolahan's deft through ball before powering his shot inside Smithies' near post.

Ruddy showed he'd maitained concentration by palming away Jonathan Hogg's volley and City played out the rest of the game to record a memorable win.
