Young Canaries secure crucial cup victory
EBOU Adams' late strike ensured City's Under-23s kept their Premier League Cup campaign going as they beat Everton 1-0 at Carrow Road.
The Canaries made one change from last week's 1-0 reverse to Aston Villa as senior goalkeeper Paul Jones was given an opportunity between the sticks.
Kieran Dowell fired over for the visitors inside five minutes and it was David Unsworth's team who continued to set the tempo in the initial stages of the first half despite them losing Anton Donkor to injury.
Jones was called into action just after the half hour mark when Donkor's replacement David Henen raced into the box and fired goalwards, with City's 'keeper palming his effort over the bar.
City's first meaningful effort came eight minutes before the interval when Diallang Jaiyesimi drove forward but the winger sliced wide from 20 yards.
Jones had to pull off another stop four minutes into the second half, tipping over Harry Charsley's header after the full-back had risen highest to meet a cross.
Morgan Feeney then hooked a volley at Jones as Everton maintained their edge over their hosts, but a City counter-attack almost yielded the game's first goal.
Glenn Middleton stormed forward and fed Jamal Lewis, with his cross running through to Louis Ramsay - but the right-back's well-struck shot whistled centimetres wide.
The small but enthusiastic home crowed were buoyed and Middleton saw a low drive blocked in the area as Dmitri Halajko's side responded.
Up the other end, Liam Walsh stung Jones' gloves from the edge of the box before he laid off a pass for Bassala Sambou, who himself was denied by the Canaries' in-form stopper.
City then took advantage with eight minutes left when Adams pounced on a drop from Toffees 'keeper Conor Hunt to lash home through a crowd of defenders from close-range.
Jones thwarted Everton once more in stoppage time, tipping Joe Williams' curling shot wide, and his side held on for a vital three points.
They now retain a chance of qualifying for the knockout stage after drawing level on points with Everton, with their final Group D match against Wolves coming up at Colney Training Centre on February 24.
