Becchio deal sees Steve Morison move to Elland Road

CITY are set to sign striker Luciano Becchio from Leeds United in a swap deal that will see Welsh International Steve Morison move in the opposite direction to Elland Road.

The deal is subject to the relevant paperwork being approved by the footballing authorities - once received Becchio will be clear to meet up with the squad for Saturday's clash with Queens Park Rangers.

Becchio has agreed a three-and-a-half year deal with the Canaries’ ending a five-and-a-half-year stint at the Yorkshire club, joining fellow former Leeds men Jonny Howson, Robert Snodgrass and Bradley Johnson in the City ranks.

Becchio told Canaries Player he had spoken to his former Leeds team-mates now in the Canary squad when his move to Carrow Road was on the cards: “I spoke to Robert Snodgrass and Jonny Howson about Norwich and they both had really good things to say about the Club and the city.

“I cannot wait to play my first game for Norwich. I am really happy about having the chance to play in the Premier League, it is brilliant for me personally and for my career.”

The Argentine said he was looking forward to playing against some of the best players in the world, including some of his fellow countrymen.

“The Premier League has some brilliant players including people like Aguero and Tevez and it will be a great experience for me to play against players of that quality."

This season Becchio has continued to impress in the npower Championship, topping the Elland Road scoring charts this season with 19 goals in 31 appearances.

Becchio began his career in his native Argentina with South American giants Boca Juniors in Buenos Aires, making the move to Spain and Real Mallorca B in 2003.

Spells at Real Murcia, Terrassa and Barcelona B followed as the Argentine learnt his trade in the lower leagues in Spain, before impressing in the Segunda with Merida where he scored 28 goals in 50 appearances.

This prompted a trial spell at Leeds United in 2008 and a subsequent five and a half year spell with the Yorkshire club where he amassed and impressive 86 goals in 221 appearances in all competitions.

Meanwhile Steve Morison leaves the Club after 18 months with the Canaries in which he made 59 appearances scoring 12 goals.

Morison played a major role in City’s excellent return to the Premier League over the last 18 months and everyone at the Club wishes him the best of luck at Elland Road.
