COLIN Calderwood confirmed the Canaries are settling in to their routine across the Atlantic after completing their first day of training in the United States.
The 25-man squad took part in a session each at Stanford University and San Jose Earthquakes’ training facility on Tuesday, and City's assistant manager said it helped to get the players get back in the swing of things at this early stage of their preparations for the season.
“You can’t go straight into the work at too high an intensity, so this morning was just more a flush out session and this afternoon we got involved in a small-sided game.
“The first thing that we’ve got to do is make sure that we’ve got as many players training for 100 percent of the sessions that we’ve got – so that they don’t miss a session."
City’s squad for the trip includes last week’s signings Martin Olsson and Leroy Fer, plus FA Youth Cup winner Josh Murphy, but a small band of players are remaining in Norfolk to continue their preparations for the new campaign.
“I think it was better for the ones left at home, Seb (Bassong) and Michael (Turner) especially, to stay there. They wouldn’t have taken part in any of the games over the 10-12 days.
Calderwood also confirmed that manager Chris Hughton will be flying out to join the squad on Wednesday after finalising some pre-season plans back in England.
