CITY defender Michael Turner was pleased to play his part in a Norwich clean sheet after Saturday’s Barclays Premier League 0-0 draw with Newcastle United at Carrow Road.
Despite plenty of possession the Canaries were unable to translate that into goals against the Magpies, but another solid defensive display will give them plenty of encouragement going into next weekend’s clash with Liverpool at Anfield.
Alan Pardew’s Newcastle rarely threatened during the 90 minutes, and Turner feels that is a testament to the way City defended all over the pitch.
He told Canaries Player: “We defended well as a team, and we felt comfortable about keeping them out, it was just about finding that breakthrough.
“It’s always nice as a defender to keep a clean sheet and in the unbeaten run we had we kept a few, and it’s nice to get back to that.
“If you keep clean sheets you’ll always get something from the game, and we’ll take something from that and build on it on the training ground this week.
“We had a couple of half decent chances, but all in all I think we’re disappointed with our play in the final third.
“We were a little bit disappointed that we didn’t’ create as many chances as we were hoping to, and in the end although we put another point on the board, we are a little disappointed that we couldn’t turn it into three.
“It’s a positive for us that we’re out of that losing streak, but Newcastle had been struggling a little bit and it was an opportunity to put three points on the board, but it just wasn’t to be.
“It would have been nice to have got three points, but we’ve got one and we’ll move on to the next match, which is obviously a tough away game but we’re looking forward to it and we’re getting ready to put in a performance.
“I don’t look at the league table personally, I prefer to take each game as it comes and get as many points on the board as you can.
“Obviously we had a good run that propelled us up the table, but it’s important to take each game as it comes and go from there.”
