DISADVANTAGED and disabled people in Norfolk are set to benefit to the tune of £10,000 from the outstanding behaviour of Canary fans last season.
The Yellow Army were voted ‘best-behaved’ for the 2011-12 season by match officials and £5,000 of the resultant award will be distributed to local groups or individuals nominated by supporters through a scheme called ‘Fans’ Community Cashback’, along with an additional £5,000 from the Community Sports Foundation’s Sporting Light Appeal.
The Appeal is to run the scheme and will select nominated causes that help disadvantaged people and those with disabilities to experience the benefits of sport; keeping them active and happy while improving their health and skills for the future.
Season ticket holders and members are invited to apply for a grant or bursary of between £100 and £500 for their chosen local charity or cause by Friday, April 5.
After the closing date, eligible applications will be considered by the Sporting Light Appeal and the Norwich City Football Club Charity Steering Group.
The successful recipients will be announced on Monday, May 6.
Norwich City Football Club Chief Executive and CSF Trustee David McNally said: “This award from the FA, in association with the Premier League, is fully-deserved national recognition for our supporters, whose passionate backing at home and away games is massively appreciated by the squad and everyone at the Club.
“I’m delighted that their excellent behaviour has enabled our Community Sports Foundation to set up such a worthy scheme, which will see that money make a real difference to the lives of people in our local area.”
