See what former City stoppers are up to now

As part of a series of features looking at ex-Canaries, Steve Whitlam tracks the progress of some former Norwich City goalkeepers.

TWO former Norwich goalkeepers joined new clubs at the beginning of September.

Lee Camp (2006, 2013) joined West Bromwich Albion on a monthly rolling contract until January 2014. The Northern Ireland international was released by the Canaries in May having joined last January as cover for the injured John Ruddy (2010-present). Camp made three appearances for Norwich last season, adding to the three made whilst on loan in the autumn of 2006.

Ben Alnwick (2009) had his contract with Barnsley terminated on September 2, having made 12 appearances since joining the Tykes in July 2012. The former Spurs ‘keeper then returned to London, joining Charlton two days later.

Other goalkeepers on the move this summer include Andy Marshall (1994-2001) who rejoined Millwall on August 8. He had previously been at the New Den between January 2004 and June 2006. Marshall had been Aston Villa’s third choice stopper since August 2009.

Replacing him at Villa Park is City youth team product Jed Steer (2007-13) who signed for Villa on the expiry of his Norwich contract. Steer made his Villa debut in the Capital One Cup win over Rotherham on August 28 but conceded four against Tottenham in his second appearance on September 24.

Declan Rudd (2008-present) has kept six clean sheets in nine appearances to date for Preston since joining them on a season-long loan on July 1.

Former Scottish international Paul Gallagher (2004-07) moved to Scottish Premier League side Partick Thistle on May 31 as player-coach.

Also taking up a coaching role was Tony Warner (2007) who joined Blackpool as goalkeeping coach this summer. He played last season for Maltese side Floriana. Warner will coach Scottish international Matt Gilks (2007-08). Gilks joined Blackpool in June 2008 at the same time as Wes Hoolahan (2008-present) moved in the opposite direction to Norwich.

Chris Woods (1981-87) followed David Moyes from Everton to become Manchester United’s new goalkeeping coach on July 1, 2013.

Other former Canaries working as goalkeeping coaches include Barnsley’s Simon Tracey (1995) who made three appearances for Norwich whilst on loan from Sheffield United. Former Welsh international Darren Ward (2004-06) is coach at Sheffield United’s Academy whilst Paul Crichton (2001-04, 2009-10) joined Huddersfield on July 19, 2012 as goalkeeping coach.

Former Norwich goalkeeping coach Tommy Wright (2008-09) was appointed manager of Scottish side St Johnstone in June 2013.

Former Norwich goalkeepers still playing professionally include David Marshall (2007-09) who has been first choice ‘keeper this season for both Scotland and Cardiff although former Norwich youngster Joe Lewis (2003-08) made his Premier League debut in the 1-1 draw with Hull on September 14.

Robert Green (1997-2006) is at QPR whilst Celtic’s Fraser Forster (2009-10) is playing in the Champions League with Celtic. Stuart Nelson (2008-09) is with Gillingham whilst Michael Theoklitos (2009-10) plays for Australian side Brisbane Roar.
