Early penalty earns visitors victory at Colney
A FULHAM penalty just four minutes into the game was enough to defeat Norwich City's Under-21s in their league meeting on Bank Holiday Monday.
Cauley Woodrow dispatched the spot-kick himself after being brought down by Daniel Ayala to secure the Cottagers a 1-0 win at Colney.
The Canaries were unlucky to come away from the game with nothing, however, after pressing for the majority of the second half.
The result means Ricky Martin's side have suffered consecutive defeats since their opening day 4-1 thrashing of Stoke City.
Ayala was joined by fellow senior professional David Fox in the starting eleven, while Fulham named a strong line-up that included Kerim Frei.
The game's crucial moment came in the early stages - Lasse Vigen Christensen played a precise through pass to Woodrow, who skipped past Gafaiti but was tripped by Ayala.
Woodrow then stepped up to send Remi Matthews the wrong way and give the advantage to the visitors.
City's first opportunities came in quick succession on the quarter hour - first Carlton Morris stabbed a low shot straight at Marcus Bettinelli, before Josh Murphy was thwarted by the Fulham stopper.
Morris then almost produced the Canaries' equaliser on 30 minutes when he burst into the box on the left-hand side, but his shot rebounded back off the angle of post and bar.
There was concern just before half-time when Harry Toffolo went down clutching his shoulder, but City's full-back was able to continue.
HALF-TIME: Norwich City 0-1 Fulham
Fulham pressed in the second half's early moments, testing Matthews through Muamer Tankovic and then Woodrow but City soon took control of the game.
Jamar Loza poked a shot straight at Bettinelli, and then Jacob Murphy forced a good save from the visiting goalkeeper at his near post.
Consistent spells of possession weren't warranting the goal they craved, though, and they would have gone 2-0 down but for Matthews' excellent save from Woodrow.
The Canaries grew frustrated as the game edged towards its conclusion, but there was time for one last opening in stoppage time.
Josh Murphy picked out Morris superbly at the back post, and after City's striker brought the ball down on his chest confidently, his half volley was saved.
