Gary Hooper pleased to get off the mark for Canaries

SUMMER signing Gary Hooper scored both goals in City’s 2-2 draw with Sporting Braga last night as the Canaries continued their pre-season preparations with a trip to Portugal.

Hooper struck after 14 and 28 minutes and despite the hosts producing a second-half comeback at the AXA Stadium, the former Celtic man felt it had been a useful workout for him and his team-mates.

“I thought it was a good game,” said Hooper.

“Me and Wes (Hoolahan) started up top and I thought the first half was really good and I scored the two goals.”

After arriving in fine form and scoring goals galore for the SPL Champions, Hooper said it was nice to get off the mark for the Canaries.

“It is always nice to get your first goal, it was a great touch from Benno (Elliott Bennett), even though I nearly missed the goal, it went it and then I went on to get my second.”

This brief visit to Braga has provided Hooper with an ideal opportunity of spending a couple of days with his new team-mates away from the regular surroundings of Colney and the striker confirmed he’s enjoyed the break.

“The lads are good, I get on with them - there’s a few Scottish lads I know and it’s been good.”

After the City squad fly back to Norwich, attentions will then switch to next week’s final two warm-up games at home to Real Sociedad (Tuesday, August 6, 7.45pm) and Panathinaikos (Saturday, August 10, 3pm) and Hooper is relishing a potential home debut in front of the Yellow Army at Carrow Road on Tuesday.

“I cant wait to play at home and in front of the fans, get some game time and hopefully score a goal for them.”
