Howson hopes team can carry Saints momentum into Spurs game

JONNY HOWSON says there has been a ‘feel-good factor’ around the Club following the maiden Premier League win of the season over Southampton – and hopes that can be carried through to this weekend’s meeting with Tottenham Hotspur.

Even though the 25-year-old missed out on a starting berth for the 1-0 victory at Carrow Road, he was as delighted as anybody that City notched their first three points.

“It just makes it a bit easier around the Club,” said Howson when speaking exclusively to canaries.co.uk.

“Getting that first win on the board in the league, and going into the international break on the back of it just makes it a bit happier around the place. It gives it a bit of a feel-good factor back in again.

“We drew 1-1 with Tottenham at White Hart Lane last year and we beat them there the year before, so hopefully we can take that confidence and there’ll be more of the same.”

On fighting to earn back his place in the team, he added: “Whenever you’ve been playing and then you’re not in the side, it’s a case of giving your all in training to try and get back in.

“The main thing though was how the team did, so to get the three points was good.

“It’s about the team – I was just as pleased as anyone that we got the three points. It’s my job now to push the lads that started against Southampton and keep them on their toes.”

Howson says the trip to north London is always one of the best fixtures on the calendar, so he is looking ahead to the match.

“It’s a nice place to go and it’s one of the top stadiums in the country,” he said.

“With the players they’ve bought, I think it will interesting because they still need time to gel together. They’ve had a fair few new players come into their side so I think it will be an interesting game.”
