Manager reacts after stalemate at the Stadium of Light

CHRIS Hughton admitted he will settle for the point gained from the 0-0 draw with Sunderland – even though he feels his side did enough to win the game.

Both teams had opportunities to clinch the three points, with City’s best chances falling to Leroy Fer and the returning Ricky van Wolfswinkel at the Stadium of Light.

“I think overall, we are satisfied, and with the fact that it was a clean sheet as well. Irrespective of where Sunderland are in the league at this moment, it was always going to be a tough game,” said Hughton when speaking to the press after the game.

“It was a fairly open game at times – I thought we showed really good resilience, we broke really well and we got into some good areas. We’re a bit disappointed that we didn’t come away with a win.”

The result means the Canaries have now picked up ten points from the last 18 available, and Hughton is happy that things are looking up for his team.

“I think from where we were we’ve done well, but that’s the league and that’s how it is. It’s about coping with the ups and downs. You have to make sure that you’re able to bounce back from them,” he added.

“We’re in a decent run at the moment, especially after the injuries which we’ve had to contest with in recent weeks which have tested the squad and I think we’ve responded really well to that.”

Jonny Howson missed out on a place in the squad for the first time in the league this season, and Hughton confirmed afterwards that the midfielder had injured his back in training.

“It’s a real blow for Jonny and for us. As we know, he’s just signed a new deal and he was playing as well as he has done in my time here,” he explained.

“He felt his back during the week. We will assess him over the next couple of days as we have done over the past couple of days. It’s a real blow for us but these are the things you have to contend with.”
