Bassong, Johnson and Hoolahan fit for Toffees trip
CHRIS Hughton spoke of a slightly shortened injury list as he prepares to take the Canaries to Goodison Park to face Everton this Saturday.
City have been hampered by fitness problems over the Christmas period but Sebastien Bassong is one of three players who missed the Fulham match who is set to return.
“Seb, Bradley Johnson and Wes Hoolahan – who all missed the FA Cup game – are back fit. We’re in a better position than what we have been,” he said when speaking at his pre-match press conference for the Fulham game.
“Michael Turner will be out with a hamstring pull for a matter of weeks, but the good news is that Alex Tettey and Anthony Pilkington will train fully on Monday.
Hughton is wary of an Everton side that has flourished under the management of Roberto Martinez, having only lost twice in the Premier League since drawing 2-2 at Carrow Road on the opening day of the season.
“Roberto’s playing a different style and the players seem to have very much taken to it, and it’s consequently showed in the very good season that they’ve had so far,” he added.
“They’re a very good side, particularly at home. I think what Roberto has done is continue the excellent work that David Moyes did over the years that he was there.
City will take encouragement from recent performances on the road, however, as they look to extend their unbeaten away run to four.
“Our form away from home has certainly improved from earlier in the season. That had to be the case and it needs to be the case again this weekend, because we’re going to a very good side,” said Hughton.
“Our level of performance hasn’t been that bad – we all know, in terms of the results away from home that they’re games that we could have won, but still in this tough division a draw away from home isn’t a bad result.”
