DEADLINE day recruit James Maddison has told Norwich City TV of his excitement about the challenge of representing the Canaries next season.
City completed a late swoop
for the Coventry City Academy graduate on February 1, with the 19-year-old immediately loaned back to the Sky Bet League One side for the remainder of the campaign.
Speaking in his first interview since the dramatic against-the-clock transfer, Maddison
- who has played 15 times for the Sky Blues in 2015-16 - outlined his motives behind the move.
He said: "I just felt like this was the next step for me because Norwich City are a massive club and I’m looking forward to the challenge next season.
"The club obviously has a young, hungry manager who’s really good and is going to have a great managerial career in the game.
"I’m on loan at Coventry until the end of the season and I’m just aiming to get promotion with them – that would be the perfect send-off, and I’m really looking forward to next season."
Maddison expanded more on his association with Coventry in the interview, admitting that it was a difficult decision to leave the club that gave him his opportunity in the game.
"I’d come through the academy system, it’s my hometown club and I’d had every stage of my development there," said the attacking midfielder.
"It’s the club that gave me my debut, it’s been my club that has made me the player I am today and I’m truly grateful to everyone there who has helped with my development.
"I broke into the first team last year and I was first on the bench as a 16-year-old, and I’ve been exposed to first team football earlier than most so I think that can only be beneficial to me in the long run.
"I’ve really enjoyed my time there but I just felt like this was the next step in my career to join Norwich."
