Young Canaries well beaten by strong Newcastle outfit

A JONAS Gutierrez-inspired Newcastle Under-21s side proved too strong for Norwich City as the Canaries were defeated 4-1 at Whitley Park.

The Magpies utilised the rule that allows up to three over-age outfield players for a league match, and first-team winger Gutierrez had a hand in all four of the home team's goals.

Mark Robson's City side scored the game's first, however, with Carlton Morris, who earlier this week signed his first professional contract with the Club, capitalising on Curtis Good's profligacy in possession to score past Jak Alnwick.

Newcastle levelled things up just five minutes later through a Ewan McNeil own goal, before Gael Bigirimana netted with a free-kick past Ben Killip.

Gutierrez got his own name on the scoresheet after a neat one-two with Adam Campbell, before Jonathyn Quinn scored the hosts' fourth late on.

NORWICH CITY (starting 11): Killip; McNeil, McFadden, Gafaiti, Toffolo; McGeehan (c), Hall-Johnson; Barker, Loza, Young; Morris. Subs: Hodd, Oxborough (GK), Norman, Wyatt.
