Duo to bring out matchball against the Blues

A PAIR of local men with very different stories will be Norwich City's Community Heroes for the visit of Chelsea in the Barclays Premier League on Tuesday, March 1 (7:45pm).

Ray Humphreys, who has raised over £80,000 for charity, will join Darren Baker, who bravely thwarted an armed robber single-handedly in a Norwich shop, to bring out the matchball before the game.

For over 20 years, Mr Humphreys has been involved with the Great Yarmouth Gateway Club, which provides social activities for people with learning difficulties.

He has taken part in marathon fundraising events such as swimming, darts, pool, and even a sky dive, with his efforts benefiting East Coast Truckers, East Anglian Air Ambulance, and MacMillan Nurses.

The Gateway Club was founded 44 years ago and holds a social group every Friday at St Paul’s Church Hall. The charity has 12 committee members and 30 volunteer helpers.

Meanwhile, Mr Baker made headline news in December when he restrained an armed robber at a convenience store in Drayton.

Upon hearing of the raid from his wife Sharon, Mr Baker rushed to the store and confronted the man, before performing an astonishing act of bravery which saw him wrestle the weapon from the man and prevent his escape.

Both men will walk out with the matchball shortly before kick-off on Tuesday, so please give them a warm Carrow Road welcome!
