Justin Fashanu would have been 55 today

NORWICH City Football Club today remembers Justin Fashanu on what would have been the former striker's 55th birthday.

Originally from London, Justin - born on February 19, 1961 - and his younger brother John were placed in foster care as children in Attleborough, Norfolk following their parents' split.

Justin began his football career as an apprentice with the Canaries, signing professional terms in 1978 and making his debut in a Division One match against West Bromwich Albion on January 13, 1979.

His most memorable moment in City colours came in 1980 with his wonder-strike against Liverpool at Carrow Road, a goal that would go on to win BBC Match of the Day's Goal of the Season award.

In total, Justin made 103 appearances in all competitions for the Canaries, scoring an impressive 40 goals.

He died tragically in 1998 aged just 37 and his experiences in the game serve as an inspiration in the fight against homophobia and all forms of discrimination within football.

RIP Justin from all at Norwich City Football Club.
