REMI Matthews' loan spell at Doncaster Rovers got off to a disappointing start as Darren Ferguson's side were beaten 4-1 by relegation rivals Colchester United on Good Friday.

Matthews signed for the Sky Bet League One strugglers on loan until the end of the season on Thursday, but he got off to a losing start with his new teammates at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Rovers are in action again on Easter Monday when they welcome Blackpool to the Keepmoat Stadium.

Elsewhere in English football's third tier, Jacob Murphy got an assist for Coventry City on Friday night - but they suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Peterborough United.

Murphy's teammate James Maddison wasn't involved as he has joined Harry Toffolo, on loan at Posh, in England's Under-20 squad for their match on Sunday against Canada.

Also on Friday Louis Thompson's Swindon Town were on the wrong end of a heavy 4-1 defeat at home to Wigan Athletic, while Jamar Loza came on as a second half substitute for Southend United in their 4-1 reverse at Rochdale.

In the Vanarama National League, Cameron Norman wasn't selected in Woking's 1-1 draw with Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday, but in the tier below Ben Killip kept goal for Lowestoft Town in their unlucky 1-0 loss at Nuneaton Town.
