Two teams in final of Premier League Schools Tournament

ON Thursday, two teams will represent Norwich City at the finals of the Premier League Schools Tournament on the pitch at Anfield.

Woodland Junior School and Wymondham High School qualified for the Under-11 Mixed and Under-13 Girls’ events respectively and will fly the flag for Norwich City against representative teams from the other Premier League clubs.

The draw for the finals was completed by Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson, who pulled the Norwich City teams out in a group with Stoke City, Fulham, Reading and West Ham United.

Wymondham High School claimed their spot at the finals in February after winning the Under-13 Girls’ event on goal difference and follow in the footsteps of Cliff Park High School who lost in the group stage at the Emirates Stadium in 2012.

Over 70 Norfolk schools entered this year’s event for Under 11s, which saw boys and girls compete in the same team in a five-a-side format.

Woodland triumphed over Firside Junior School in a thrilling final, from a Champions’ Day field that included last year’s finals representatives, Robert Kett Junior School.

Joe Harvey, Schools Development Officer for the Community Sports Foundation said: “The teams played brilliantly to earn this dream chance to play at Anfield. We wish them luck, but whatever the outcome it will be a terrific experience for them.”
