Ruddy continues progress with appearance in Under-21s win

JOHN RUDDY got another 90 minutes under his belt as Norwich City's Development Squad earned a narrow 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers at the Lancashire FA.

City's England international goalkeeper, who has been out for five months with a thigh injury, backed up his appearance for Scott Marshall's side at Newcastle United last week with a cleansheet against the Trotters on Monday evening.

Jamar Loza's goal late in the first-half proved enough for the Canaries to notch up three points and get back in the winners' circle after back-to-back defeats.

Marshall said afterwards: "We're really pleased. The boys worked really hard and passed it well at times and scored a really good goal. When they did manage to break us down, John was on form and made a couple of good stops.

"He's getting there definitely. There was plenty of action for him tonight - they put lots of crosses in and he made some good saves.

"I'm sure he'll be pleased with the match action he got and it's another one on the road to getting back to full fitness."

City were the team on the ascendency throughout the first period, with Loza and Ewen McNeil going close to edging them in front.

The former achieved that four minutes before the break, finishing well after being fed by Sam Kelly.

Bolton pushed in the second half and Bolton striker Jack Sampson forced Ruddy into an excellent stop, but City were able to hold on and secure the victory.

NORWICH CITY: Ruddy; Carroll, Sheriff (c), Gafaiti, McNeil; Kelly; Nkumu, Hodd; Clunan; Loza, Browne. Subs not used: Heath, Steer (GK), St Louis, Efete.
