ACADEMY MATTERS

Posted on: Fri 26 Feb 2010

In an earlier programme I informed you that current under-16 players Remi Matthews, Sam Kelly and Jason Dobbs had all agreed to join us in the summer as scholars. I am pleased to report that two more of our current under-16 squad have accepted terms of a two-year scholarship contract with the Club to begin in July 2010.

Midfielder Michael Clunan who has been with the Club since 2002 when he registered as an eight-year-old. During this time Michael has developed consistently and has always shown the potential to play at a high level.

Michael is an intelligent player with good technical ability and a very good passing range and he will compliment the squad of players we already have in place in the youth team squad.

Fellow under-16 Theo Jones has also committed to a two-year scholarship with the Club.

Theo has been with the Club since for the last two seasons and has done well enough in this reasonably short space of time to be offered a deal at Norwich City.

Theo is a combative defender who tackles strongly and likes to support attacks whenever possible. He has made several appearances in the under-18 team this season and has always looked assured on the pitch and fully deserves his scholarship offer.

Both players must continue to work hard in the remainder of this season and look to cement a place in the youth team squad. The experience they gain now playing for the under-18s will be of real benefit to them, helping them get used to the pace of the game at that level.

They must now make the most of any time spent at the training ground to impress the staff at the Club, whether this is in matches, training or their general behaviour around the building.

I am delighted that Michael and Theo have agreed to join us full-time in the summer and on behalf of all at Norwich City I would like to congratulate both players on securing their scholarships with the Club and hope this will be the first of many contracts they sign with Norwich City.

Enjoy the game.
