CITY PLAYERS VISIT LOCAL HOSPITALS

Posted on: Wed 09 Dec 2009

CITY players have this week made several hospital visits to spread a little Christmas cheer.

The Club annually visits local hospitals and hospices, but this year extra visits have been arranged with players visiting wards with goodie bags funded by the Norwich City squad.

On Monday, December 7, midfielders Simon Lappin and Stephen Hughes joined Community Ambassador Jeremy Goss at the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston. They visited the Young Person and Children's Ward and the Neonatal Ward to visit children and their families and sign autographs.

Play Specialist at the James Paget, Marie Cross said: "The visit really brightened up the day for the youngsters - it lifted their spirits, took their minds off their medical conditions and will help their recovery."

Stephen Hughes added: "It was nice to meet the youngsters - they show real courage and we wish them a full and speedy recovery. They are in good hands."

Jens Berthel Askou, Russell Martin, Tom Adeyemi and Michael Theoklitos paid a visit to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with Canaries for the Community volunteer Duncan MacInnes, who regularly visits patients in the Buxton Ward to show them hightlights of Norwich City matches.

Danish defender Jens Berthel Askou said: "They enjoyed seeing the players, a lot of them support Norwich City Football Club so it is good to give something back to them.

"It is good coming to meet people outside the surroundings of the football stadium and talking to them on a more personal level. They were really nice kids and these are the people keeping the Club alive. To be able to give just a little bit back is just great."

Jeremy Goss with Adam Drury and Jamie Cureton visited the hard-working staff of the NANSA Family Centre (Norfolk & Norwich Scope Association), a local independent charity offering pre-school services for Norfolk children with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. To help raise funds for the centre both Adam and Jamie presented a signed City shirt as an auction item to the Executive Officer, Sheila Parish and the Chairman of NANSA, Gill Doy.

Duncan MacInnes, founder of Canaries for the Community, regularly visits the hospital as a volunteer and said: "The guys have been brilliant, visiting the children and a couple of the older guys in the renal unit.

"It is great when the players come in, it is a massive lift for not just the patients but also the staff here at the hospitals. There are so many dedicated staff and many of them are Norwich City fans so it is just great all-round for the guys to come and we've had a few great days at the hospitals."
