YELLOW AND CLEAN

Posted on: Fri 11 Jun 2010

LAST month Canaries for the Community (CFTC), run by volunteer Duncan MacInnes and sponsored by Aviva, organised a weekend working party to paint in the stands at Carrow Road.

In order to fulfill safety requirements, each passageway step in the stands has to be painted with a yellow strip. Weathering and the feet of many fans had made this a massive must-do task, one of many this summer for Trevor Lemmon, Stadium Manager, and his assistant.

However, in two days the work was completed thanks to 30 volunteer City fans on hands and knees in the Jarrold, City, Lower Norwich and Peterborough and Lower Barclay Stands. Not only is there now a newly painted strip on each stair but the volunteers also repainted the black handrails and yellow pitch gates in the same areas. If that wasn't enough, the fans also completely redecorated the 101 Club in the Aviva Community Stand.

Among the volunteer fans were staff from Aviva, Marriott Sprowston Manor Hotel and the NCFC sales team. Sam Gordon, Finance & Operations Director was present on Saturday to thank the volunteers on behalf of the Club.

CFTC Founder and Project Manager, Duncan MacInnes said: "This was a tremendous effort by the fans giving up their time and is another example of what a great group of supporters we have at this club. We all worked hard and it was very satisfying to complete the task. Each volunteer will receive a free ticket to a Carrow Road pre-season friendly but I suspect the memorable time for many was the informal kick-about, penalties and crossbar challenge on the pitch at the end of each day!"
