NORWICH City have teamed up with Broadland District Council and current Academy sponsors Bayer CropScience in order to raise funds for their Academy Tactic Zone appeal.

Bright yellow bins have been placed at various sites in the county, where people are being asked to deposit their unwanted mobile phones. Thanks to Love2Recycle, each phone can raise up to £10, money which will go to the Canaries' Academy.

Colin Bland, Chief Executive of Broadland District Council, was pleased to help the appeal. "It's great that Norwich City Football Club can raise some funds for their Academy Tactic Zone, and that the community can get involved. I'm sure that this will be a great project between the two organisations."

Community Ambassador and City Legend Jeremy Goss went along to present the Council with the bins. "It's great that the recycling of mobile phones provides charities the opportunity to be rewarded for collecting them.

"It's a fantastic cause, we're raising money for the Tactic Zone, and this is a way that the fans can do their bit to help by just offloading their unwanted mobile phone. It's great that they can do something so simple and yet it's raising money for the Football Academy. I want to thank all the businesses who have helped us out by displaying one of the bins."

Mobile Phone Recycling

The UK throws away approximately 15 million mobile phones every year with only 10% of these currently recycled. When sent to a landfill, harmful toxins are released into the environment such as Cadmium, Mercury, and Lead. Sending a mobile phone to be recycled avoids this problem and allows them to be either re-used or recycled, sometimes into items such as buckets, car wheel trims and printer cartridges.

The bins will be located at:

The BDC offices, Yarmouth Road, Thorpe St Andrew

Sprowston Parish Council Offices, Recreation Ground Road

Hellesdon Community Centre (Parish Offices), Wood View Road.

The bins will also be displayed at the Broadland Life Festival in Sprowston during the weekend of the July, 19.

Another local business which is supporting the appeal is Bayer CropScience, based on Sweet Briar Road. They are the existing Academy Sponsors and have just agreed to sponser the U18s for the next two years. Site Manager, David Jones, told Canaries.co.uk, "'At Bayer, we are very keen on recycling and are delighted to be able to support this great initiative."

On the part Bayer CropScience have played in the appeal, Goss commented: "On behalf of NCFC I would like to pass on my thanks and appreciation to David Jones and all at Bayer CropScience for their continued support of the Club's Academy. I would also like to say thank you to Bayer for helping us promote our recycling of un-wanted or old mobile phones initiative with all proceeds going to the Tactic Zone."
