Norwich City Football Club's Community Ambassador Jeremy Goss writes: "The eagerly awaited brand new Championship season of 2008/09 is already well underway for the Canaries and in many ways this has signalled the start of what feels like a brand new era for Norwich City. With Glenn Roeder's new look squad of players on the pitch and big changes at the highest level off it, the army of yellow and green fans must be getting a real sense of changing times at Carrow Road.
"However, as the Club continues to make working progress which will help drive us into the 'dream world' of Premiership football, there is one aspect of the Club, which, will always remain - Its responsibilities to its fans and local community. Norwich City is an ambitious and inspiring Football Club at the heart of a dynamic and growing region so its Club to supporter relationship agenda will always remain of the highest importance.
"To help maintain our strong community links the Club's Football in the Community coaches, Study Support tutors and Canaries for the Community volunteers are not just visible to us all on matchdays but continue to motivate and inspire people all year round."
Here are some highlighted events which have taken place:
Football in the Community dominating summer community eventsThis summer the fantastic FA-qualified coaches of FITC have been very busy with managing many different and varied sporting courses at lots of venues across Norfolk and North Suffolk. This year's special summer courses included, five and two-day Summer Soccer Schools, Girls PDC's, Legends Soccer School, Soccer Tots, Mini Kickers, Goalkeeping, Girls Football, Junior Coaches Camp, Multi Sports Camps, Match Day Clubs and Birthday Parties.
Well done to all the staff from FITC for showing so much energy, enthusiasm and passion towards making a positive difference to so many youngsters' lives. They deliver high-quality courses that are both fun and enjoyable, help children to develop sporting skills, improve confidence and self-esteem and in many ways they have been influencing the next generation of Norwich City fans.

Olly's Surprise 'Hoolahan' Gift
During one of the FITC's Soccer School's held in Gorelston, I was delighted to present a signed action photo of Canary star, Wes Hoolahan. The photo was donated by a canaries.co.uk competition winner. I chose Olly as the winner of the photo because of his fantastic attitude towards wanting to learn and wanting to really enjoy his experience of playing football. He was also a very good player!

Coca-Cola Training Day
Some weeks ago I was pleased to have staged a coaching session for 15 youngsters on behalf of Coca-Cola. The children enjoyed a great day of fun activity in the indoor arena at Colney Training Centre as well having a tour of the complex. Each person left with a NCFC 'goody bag' which made them all very happy.
Canary Experience Fishing Day
This was a brilliant day for Andrew Petch who came along to the county's best fishery, Barford Lakes, to enjoy a day's fishing with myself, Mark Barham and Club photographer Roger Harris. Andrew, a big Norwich fan, caught lots of carp and arguably the biggest fish of the day - a common carp weighing around the 12lb mark! This Canary Experience has proved to be very successful with all proceeds going towards the Academy Tactic Zone. A big thank you to Mark Barham, for being part of the day, and to Roger Harris for his continued support and his willingness to pass on his outstanding angling skills.

Canary Experience Golf Day
The last Canary Experience Golf Day for 2008 took place at Barnham Broom recently with seven more participants sharing the day with four former NCFC footballers, Bryan Gunn, Mark Barham, Phil Lythgoe and myself. As always the day started well with bacon rolls and coffee for all, followed by 18 holes of golf and a two-course meal. My thanks go to Barnham Broom for hosting the event and to Gunny, Mark and Phil for giving up their time to contribute to an excellent day.

Study Support Centre News
The Study Support Centre have been busy supporting various campaigns such as Playing For Success and the National Literacy Trust
Playing For Success
I have been delighted to play my part in the 'Playing for Success' presentation nights last July. KS2 and KS3 children from nine different schools in and around Norwich came to Carrow Road to celebrate their achievements from their ten-week course as well as receiving an NCFC 'goody bag'

The PFS scheme has been running at Carrow Road for the last ten years and in that time has seen over 3,000 children benefit from visiting the study centre. The main aims are to raise children's level of achievement in literacy, numeracy and ICT skills as well as increasing motivation, confidence and self-esteem. The Study Centre is very much an inspiring facility with fantastic staff and I would like to say a massive well done to the PFS Tutors Ros Watson and Nicky Bennett and Study Coaches James Roberts, Katie Ford and Alison Palmer. Your valuable input is very much appreciated by us all.
National Literacy Trust
The National Literacy Trust (NLT) and Penguin Books organised a book giveaway for families who attended Norwich's recent home Championship game against Sheffield United on Saturday, September 20. Families were allowed to choose from 500 free books by a variety of popular authors before the game.
The giveaway was part of the NLT's sport and literacy initiative, which uses the motivational power of sport to kick-start reading and literacy among fans. We were proud to be involved in the Penguin Book giveaway as we were one of only 15 clubs selected to receive 500 free books. This shows how highly the NLT values the work the Study Centre does to promote reading amongst young people in our local community.

Norwich City manager Glenn Roeder said: "There are so many wonderful families that support our team week after week so giving free Penguin Books to families and linking up with the library is the best possible way we can give something back. Enjoying reading as a family, whether it is a novel, sports magazine or the match report itself, is good fun, and it helps to develop literacy skills that will change lives."
Well done to Paul Wickens from the Study Centre for making the day a big success.
Double Club
This is a brand new innovative project that generates excitement in learning by focusing on football. It uses the enthusiasm young people have for the sport to help motivate them within the classroom. Two hours of football-themed classroom sessions followed by one hour of football coaching a week keep the youngsters very focused.

Classroom sessions make use of inspirational resources such as NCFC matchday programmes, highlights of recent games and exclusive match photographs. This really is a great scheme and a good example of the Club's FITC department linking up well with the Study Centre to deliver an excellent learning initiative. Paul Wickens, the Double Club Co-Ordinator, says: "We see the Double Club programme as an exciting intervention initiative that can inspire young people to engage more fully in their learning."
UEA Presentation Day
The Nuffield Science Bursary Awards took place recently within the impressive surroundings of the Council Chamber on site at the UEA. It was a privilege to attend such a special day on behalf of NCFC and have the opportunity to meet ten gifted youngsters who spoke and presented data on some remarkable subjects. One of those individuals was Adam Flores who presented his findings on Norwich City's carbon footprint.

City Heritage Tours
As Norwich City are part of the City Heritage, it threw its doors wide open for anyone wanting to tour the famous Carrow Road stadium. The two separate ground tours were very successful with over 40 people taking advantage of the National Heritage Open Days. I was happy to conduct both tours, which were very well received with guests agreeing that the stadium and facilities are Premiership standard.
Waterstones Reading Day
I suddenly became 'story teller' recently at the fabulous book store Waterstones based in the city centre. The day was organised to encouraging youngsters to get into reading and it was another way of Norwich City contributing towards the National Year of Reading. I was joined on the day by the Norwich Town Crier and Study Support Double Club Co-Ordinator, Paul Wickens. Thanks Paul for your support on the day.
