COMMUNITY GOSS - OCTOBER-DECEMBER

Posted on: Tue 23 Feb 2010

Careers Day at St. Felix High School
I was very pleased to be invited to St. Felix High School near Southwold in Suffolk to conduct a talk regarding career options at Norwich City. It was a perfect opportunity to speak about the various departments here at Carrow Road and Colney as well as giving the students an insight into the skills required to be employed. Although the school is situated in Suffolk there were many Norwich City fans keen on 'work experience' here at the Club. It was a really enjoyable day and I would like to thank former Norwich City employee Kim Betts for her initial invite and kind hospitality on the day.

Bayer CropScience Poetry Winners
Bayer CropScience, who have supported Norwich City's Academy for the past four years, held their annual Poetry Winners Presentation Day at the Forum recently. Both Bayer and the EDP have joined together to help children improve their literacy skills by encouraging them to write poems. The theme for this years competition was 'Animals' and the winners were chosen by the famous actress and 'Britain's Got Talent' judge Amanda Holden.

'Legends in the Lounge'
The very first Aviva supported 'Legends in the Lounge' night took place here at Carrow Road with the lucky winner, Andrew Medley, enjoyed a great night with nine of his friends. It is yet another brilliant community idea designed by our Main Club Sponsor Aviva with the idea being to treat a Norwich City fan to food, drink and entertainment in the company of two former Norwich City players. On this occasion my good self and Darren Eadie were delighted to meet up with Andrew to watch and talk through our live TV match versus Leeds United. It was a fantastic night and a big thank you to Aviva for making it all happen.

EACH - Aviva Community Chest Challenge Winners
Aviva have once again been outstanding in giving up their shirt sponsorship for a match so that a local charity can benefit from the enormous exposure such advertising brings. East Anglia's Childrens Hospices (EACH) were delighted to have been chosen as the winners by the people of Norwich and Norfolk. Congratulations to them and well done to Aviva for having such a huge positive impact within our community.

Chris Martin supports 'Kickz'
In-form star striker Chris Martin was kind enough to give up his spare time recently to support Football in the Community's (FITC) very special 'Goals thru Football' initiative called 'Kickz'. Chris delighted all the teenagers who came along to play an hour of football in Great Yarmouth, by signing autographs and posing for photos. Well done to Gavin Coe and his team from FITC for managing the whole event.

Cody McDonald visits FITC Soccer School
Cliff Park Middle School was the venue for the latest two day soccer school run by Joe Harvey and his team from Football In the Community (FITC). The course was enjoyed by all who attended and was made even more memorable by the appearance of first team fans' favourite, Cody McDonald. Thank to Cody for giving up his time to answer so many questions.

Gossy's Quid 4 Quidenham
The Aviva Community Chest winners, EACH, have inspired me to enter into my own personal fundraising activity to add just a few more pounds to such a brilliant local charity. The activity I have chosen is simply described as hair-growing and as I have now lost the ability to grow hair on top of my head I have decided to grow it around my face in the shape of a recently seen Brad Pitt style beard! I can assure you it's the beard that looks similar not the looks! Take a look at the picture to see how it's coming along.

Support for 'Leeway' - The Leading Domestic Abuse charity
A recent visit to Great Yarmouth saw me represent NCFC at a domestic abuse charity awareness day. We as a Club are naturally pleased to promote such an important charity that helps individuals who have been physically, mentally or verbally abused in their own homes by their partners. 'Leeway' offer fabulous facilities as well as help and support to the women and children who have suffered from this type of abuse.

Hospital Visits
11 players visited four hospital and hospices in December. Read the full story.
