SUBSTITUTE Stephen Elliott bagged a brace and Grant Holt notched his 27th goal of the season as the Canaries bounced back to complete the double over play-off hopefuls Huddersfield at the Galpharm Stadium.

The Terriers took the lead in the first half through defender Neal Trotman after just two minutes and Lee Clark's side had chances to increase their lead as the home side took the first-half honours.

But you write Paul Lambert's City off at your peril and they duly stormed back to equalise as Holt fired home after the break.

On an afternoon when Leeds, Charlton and Colchester all lost, Elliott insured a great weekend for Canary fans everywhere as he struck twice after replacing Chris Martin in the 61st minute to claim an excellent victory and end Huddersfield's unbeaten home run

After the match a delighted Lambert told First News: "I thought we were brilliant. It took us 10 to 25 minutes to get going, Huddersfield to be fair came out of the traps really quickly. We lost the goal in the first minute or so, but after the first 15 to 20 minutes I thought we started to get on the ball and into the game and looked more like ourselves. And I thought second half we were outstanding.

"The lads showed great character not to wilt and kept on going and saw it through and it's a hard place to come, they haven't bean beat here all season, so I'm proud of them and what they've done - and the way we played I thought they were outstanding.

"Stephen Elliott came in and everyone could see his pace and what he's got and he has netted two marvellous goals. Grant's goal was monumental because it was his goal that got us back in the game, I thought he was back to his best and Darel Russell came in and I thought he was outstanding - I was delighted with every one of them out there."

City got off to the worst possible start to the game as they went behind with the game barely two minutes old. Huddersfield won a corner on their left and when Gary Roberts swung the flag-kick in to the near post, Neal Trotman beat a flat-footed Norwich defence to bundle the ball home from close range.

With the Canaries on the back foot they had a let-off on the quarter-hour when dangerman Jordan Rhodes fired narrowly wide from 14 yards out.

As the half progressed the Canaries began to get back into the game and Holt was inches away from equalising when his 34th-minute header from Lappin's cross flashed just wide of the far post.

A competitive encounter saw yellow cards dished out after the break to Darel Russell and Michael Nelson for City while Gary Roberts was cautioned for the home side.

Lambert replaced Chris Martin with on-loan Preston striker Stephen Elliott after the hour as the Canaries tried to force an equaliser against a resilient Huddersfield side.

But City displayed resilience of their own to claw their way back into the match on 69 minutes. A great move saw Korey Smith pick out Michael Rose sprinting down the left flank and the left-back played a neat ball into the path of Wes Hoolahan. The Irishman's clever low cut-back caught out the Terriers defence and Holt arrived with perfect timing to side-foot home from six yards.

And five minutes later City sent the 2,929 members of the Yellow Army into ecstacy as they powered into the lead. Hoolahan was again involved, playing a crafty ball over the top for Holt to run on to. The scorer of City's first turned provider as he held off his marker superbly before squaring for Elliott to gleefully steer home his first goal in Canary colours.

Stephen Elliott puts City 2-1 up against Huddersfield

Fraser Forster was on hand to pull off a great save as the home side tried to respond, diving to his left smartly to parry Pilkington's shot in the 78th minute.

A minute later Michael Rose was the most relieved man in the stadium as his bad back-pass seemed to have given Novak a golden opportunity to level, but he combined with his defensive colleagues to get back and push Novak wide at the expense of a corner.

Any concerns about a possibly nervy finish were laid to rest when the Canaries struck again five minutes from time. Holt played a neat pass to Lappin in the box - and he picked out a perfectly-timed low ball into the six-yard area for Elliot to slide home for his second of the match.
