AN own goal from Ashley Williams and well-taken injury-time strike from Simeon Jackson gave City their first home win of the season as the visit of Swansea City ended in dramatic fashion.

John Ruddy had already made a superb penalty save in the 83rd minute to deny David Cotterill after the Norwich 'keeper had conceded the spot-kick for a foul on Scott Sinclair.

And that save was to prove absolutely crucial as Williams inadvertently slid home Anthony McNamee's cross into his own net at the other end with two minutes of normal time remaining.

Substitute Jackson applied the coup de grace deep into injury time, side-footing Grant Holt's cross home with a good finish that bounced in off the crossbar to open his Canary account.

After the match City boss Paul Lambert told First News: "It was a terrific game of football I thought and they are a top, top side I think, with the way they pass the ball.

"I thought we were excellent for the first 25 minutes and they then pinned us back a bit, but we stuck at it and stuck at it and in the end got the win, which is tremendous. It's a big, big win."

Asked about Ruddy's all-important penalty save to deny David Cotterill, Lambert said: "It was an absolutely terrific save. John's had the ghost of Fraser Forster hanging over him after what Fraser achieved for us last season and thaqt's no easy thing to contend with.

"But John's come in and he's his own man and an excellent 'keeper in his own right. He's been great for me since he's come in and last two games he's been brilliant. That's two excellent clean sheets and I'm delighted for him.

"I thought the whole back four were excellent. And I'm also pleased for Simeon to get off the mark, it was a super finish, it really was."

Lambert named an unchanged team from the side which grabbed an excellent 1-0 win in their last npower Championship outing at Scunthorpe.

The Canaries started brightly, working hard to close the opposition down in the sunshine - and Swansea defender Williams had to be on his toes to block a fierce drive from Holt in the 8th minute.

In the 15th minute Holt unselfishly rolled the ball to his right on the edge of the area and Korey Smith's powerfully-struck effort was blocked by the legs of visiting 'keeper de Vries.

Meanwhile though Swansea's neat approach play was pleasing on the eye, they failed to seriously threaten John Ruddy in the Norwich goal during the opening quarter of an hour.

With the game 18 minutes old Chris Martin got to the byeline on two separate occasions, his first cut-back smothered by de Vries at his near post and the second flashing across the six-yard box and eluding team-mates and defenders alike.

Andrew Crofts was inches away from putting the Canaries in front when he rose with a clutch of players to meet Surman's corner from the right with a glancing header which flew just wide of the post.

Swansea's first really dangerous moment came in the 29th minute, when Dobbie found some space 14 yards out but was denied by a great sliding block from Elliott Ward.

As the half progressed the visitors began to enjoy more possession and put together some nice moves, with Nathan Dyer and Adam Drury having a good battle on the Canaries' left flank.

Three minutes into the second half Wes Hoolahan tried his luck with an ambitious long-range drive, but de Vries got down to save well as it bounced awkwardly in front of him.

At the other end Ruddy made a vital save with his feet as he faced down Scott Sinclair in a one-on-one chance for the visitors on 53 minutes.

Within minutes the lively visitors threatened again as Cotterill's 22-yard shot was deflected just over by Ward.

On the hour-mark Chris Martin received a yellow card from referee Mr P.Crossley, possibly for dissent.

Three minutes later and Lambert made his first change of the afternoon, as Anthony McNamee replaced Andrew Surman.

Dobbie had two chances for the visitors, his first a 25-yard effort blasted just high and wide and his second well saved by the diving figure of Ruddy.

In the 67th minute when the ball fell to Hoolahan from McNamee's free-kick, his cross-shot fizzed across the goalmouth and Michael Nelson was a whisker away from diverting it into the net as it just missed his outstretched boot.

With the game finely poised as we entered the final 15 minutes, Mark Gower was booked for the Swans as he pulled back Hoolahan.

Lambert made his second change of the game with ten minutes of normal time remaining, Hoolahan making way for Simeon Jackson as City went into the closing stages with three strikers.

But disaster struck with seven minutes to go as Scott Sinclair raced clear and as John Ruddy came off his line to attempt the save he was adjudged to have brought the Swansea player down and a penalty was awarded.

Ruddy was booked as well to rub salt into the wounds - but he provided the best possible answer as he dived superbly to his right to tip Cotterill's spot-kick on to the post and the ball was hacked to safety.

And that moment was to prove horribly costly for the visitors as Norwich took the lead in the 88th minute.

It came when Holt held off his markers well before feeding McNamee on the left. The Canary winger fired a dangerous low ball into the box bu de Vries had it covered - only to be left picking the ball out of the net as Ashley Williams slid the ball into his own goal.

Any nerves as the game entered injury time were ended as the Canaries doubled their advantage, Jackson hitting a lovely side-footed volley in off the bar from Holt's cross.

Team News

Paul Lambert has named an unchanged side from the Canaries victory over Scunthorpe last weekend, as City prepare to take on Swansea City at Carrow Road.

As a result Chris Martin continues to partner Grant Holt upfront, whilst Korey Smith also maintains his spot at the heart of the diamond, leaving David Fox to settle for a place on the bench.

The Swans make one change to the side that convincingly saw off Preston North End last weekend, as Albert Serran replaces Angel Rangel who misses out with a thigh injury.
