CITY Academy followed in the first team's footsteps by making their way to Southampton to take on the young Saints - but like their senior colleagues came home empty-handed.

An even first half saw good chances for Norwich youngsters Danny Kelly and Kenny Reeves, but both opportunities were unsuccessful and the score at half-time remained 0-0.

The second half of the match saw a penalty turned down for the Canaries who were instead awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box. This was taken by Dario Dumic and his effort hit the bar and bounced away. The next two minutes saw two goals come for the Southampton side, and this brace looked to have sealed the fate of the Norwich team. A third Saints' goal was added before Norwich's Matthew Ball played the ball over the top of defence, which Joe Clarke controlled on his chest and volleyed the ball over the advancing goalkeeper from just under 30 yards in the 90th minute.

Full time: Southampton 3 Norwich 1

Academy Manager, Ricky Martin, told canaries.co.uk: "I am really pleased with our young players, they played very well despite the result. Danny and Kenny both should have scored two goals each but I happy with the team and their performance. Dario was possibly the best player out on the pitch today."
