CITY ACADEMY BEAT DONS
NORWICH City Under-18's recorded their second home win of the season today against MK Dons at Colney Training Centre.
Ryan Oakley put City ahead with his first goal at this level and after MK Dons equalised Danny Kelly restored the lead in an exciting first half. Johnbull Osemwegie missed a second half penalty after Tyree Clarke was felled but it was a fairly comfortable win for Ricky Martin's side.
The first 15 minutes of the game were very open, with both teams creating chances to score. Danny Kelly had the first chance six minutes in, however he shot straight at the visiting keeper when one-on-one.
A minute later, winger Josh Dawkin intercepted a MK Dons pass and ran straight for goal, though his shot hit the side-netting. Soon after the visitors came close to opening the scoring following good build-up play, however, the resulting shot struck the City bar.
On nine minutes Norwich took the lead. Dawkin broke quickly from defence and his cross found Tyree Clarke on the right-hand side of the area. Clarke's attempted cross was blocked but Ryan Oakley was on hand to put away the loose ball and score his first goal for the Under-18's.

MK Dons continued to battle and soon found an equaliser, an excellent turn and cross from the winger was headed in by an MK Dons striker to make the score 1-1.
Half an hour in, Norwich regained the lead. Clarke produced a good cross from the wide right position which was headed in by Danny Kelly.
Five minutes before half-time Norwich came close to extending their lead. Good work from Oakley on the edge of the MK Dons box allowed him to make space for himself, he played a good ball into the path of Clarke whose well struck shot went just over the bar.
Half-Time: City 2 MK Dons 1

Five minutes into the second half City should have extended their lead. A cross from the left was misjudged by the MK Dons goalkeeper and fell to Kelly, taking him by surprise as he headed over with an open goal.
The Canaries were awarded a penalty on the hour mark after Clarke was brought down just inside the area. Johnbull Osemwegie took the kick but it struck the outside of the post and the score remained 2-1.
With two minutes left Kelly had one last chance to settle the match when he latched on to a good ball through from sub David Nwaogu but one-on-one with the goalkeeper, saw his shot well saved.
The game finshed 2-1 and in truth there could have been more goals in an open game but City were fairly comfortable throughout.
Full-Time: City 2 MK Dons 1
Speaking to canaries.co.uk after the match, academy manager Ricky Martin said: "I felt we attacked well as a team in the first half and was diappointed that the lead was not greater at half-time. In the second half we created further good chances to finish the game off, but this was not to be and as a result we had a nervy five minutes at the end. But on reflection I felt we were comfortable for the majority of the game and deserved the win."
