ACADEMY FIGHT BACK TO EARN DRAW
CITY Academy side produced another great fightback to earn a point at London Colney against league leaders Arsenal.
The two sides came into the game level on points at the top of the table, with Arsenal holding the advantage on goal difference.
Ricky Martin's side were below-par first half allowing the home side too much time to play and Arsenal went in at the break leading 2-0. Luke Freeman headed Arsenal ahead from a corner seven minutes before half-time.
In the final minute of the first half Benik Afobe ran at the heart of the City backline before firing Steve Bould's side into a comfortable 2-0 half-time lead.
Martin introduced striker Patrick Drmola for Tyree Clarke at half-time to partner Danny Kelly in attack and City produced a great second-half fight back.
Kelly had a great chance to pull a goal back for Norwich on 67 minutes but fired straight at Dunne in the Arsenal goal.
A minute later Kelly did reduce the arrears to one, the Irish youth international striker coolly beat his marker in the box before tucking his chance away in the bottom corner.
Centre-back Dario Dumic almost drew City level when he met Sam Habergham's inswinging corner but his headed came back off the post.
Fellow centre-back David Stephens equalised two minutes from time. A deep cross from Richard Brindley found Stephens on the edge of the box, he turned his man and hit a fantastic strike past Dunne to give City a share of the spoils.
Third placed Ipswich Town missed out on the chance go top after the drew at London Colney, losing 2-1 away to Crystal Palace. Chelsea beat Charlton Athletic 3-0, meaning two points now separate the top four in Group A of the U18 FA Premier Academy League.
Speaking to canaries.co.uk academy manager Ricky Martin said: "I was really pleased with the reaction to the first half and we created some good chances and imposed our game plan better in the second half."
