CITY defender Gary Doherty told the Evening News about the disappointment of coming away from Sheffield United with nothing to show for their efforts.

"We created a lot of good chances and played some good football on a pretty bouncy pitch," said the 28-year-old defender.

"We're disappointed that the goal didn't come. Arturo had a great headed chance, I had a little flick chance right at the end. There were a few others - Crofty, as well - we're disappointed we've come away with no goals and no points. It's a worry for us."

The Canaries narrowly lost to Darius Henderson's 17th minute header. "It was more or less a daft goal we conceded as well," Doherty added. "A cross came in the box and Henderson had a free header and that shouldn't be happening, so bad defending has cost us a goal and puts a lot of pressure on us to score goals.

"As chances go, they hit the bar in the first half, but to come here and be pretty comfortable and play really good football, we're disappointed not to come away with anything."

Doherty insisted winning the FA Cup third round replay against bottom-of-the-table Charlton at Carrow Road (7.45pm) was crucial in providing players and fans alike with a lift ahead of the visit of Barnsley on Saturday.

He said: "We need our home form to go through the roof - to stay in the Cup at home to Charlton and get everyone behind us going into the Barnsley game on Saturday because that's absolutely massive for us now.

"A win gives us confidence, it gets a good buzz instead of losing the game and everyone going home in a dire mood.

"It gets everyone happy and going into the game on Saturday, you want everyone cheery and expectant that we're going to play well and the fans are going to get behind us. We really need that at the minute because it's an absolutely massive game."
