GRANT FURY AT SECOND HALF

Posted on: Tue 14 Aug 2007

CITY boss Peter Grant watched as his side made it through to the next round of the Carling Cup - but said he was less than pleased with the display against Barnet.

Five goals inside the first half hour put the Canaries well in control against the Bees, with Jamie Cureton (2), Simon Lappin, Mark Fotheringham and Darel Russell all on the scoresheet.

But a sloppy second spell allowed the visitors back into the match, and it was this element which infuriated Grant the most.

"I'm very disappointed," he said. "They had too many shots at goal. We were very poor in the second half. Some good attacking play in some aspects of the first half, but there's a lot of work to be done.

"As I said to them at half time, the only thing I asked of them was to keep a clean sheet and I thought we were very, very poor in the second half. A lack of quality and understanding.

"To be fair to Barnet they kept going and they had some good chances in the first half also. But from our aspect I'm very disappointed."

City's flow appeared to be affected after the break with the tie more than safe, but Grant said his team did not have the luxury to sit back and take it easy.

"It was a lack of professionalism," he said. "We're not good enough to make it easy. If it was 5-0 it doesn't matter. The best teams kill you. The best teams make sure you don't concede goals. The best teams put you to the sword. And that's what I say about being ruthless. Ruthless in everything we do."
