FOZZY ON THE SCORESHEET
MIDFIELDER Mark Fotheringham was delighted to finally bag his first goal in City colours, but admitted the Canaries needed to improve on their second half display against Barnet.
City conceded twice in the second 45 minutes following a rampant first half, which saw five goals slammed past the beleaguered Bees to put the first round Carling Cup tie to bed.
After the game boss Peter Grant expressed his displeasure with the way his troops had let the game slip from their grasp.
And Fozzy, although pleased to finish as one of the goalscorers, agreed with his manager that there was much room for improvement - especially in the defensive third.
"I thought first half we played well going forward," said the 23-year-old. "We've got to work on defending as a unit and as a team. We are working on it in training but we've got to put it into action in the games.
"It's quite frustrating. The ideas are in the head but we are not quite getting it together. But I thought going forward tonight we were a lot better."
Grant was clearly unhappy with his team at the final whistle, and Fotheringham said the gaffer had spelt out some home truths in the dressing room.
"We've got to start taking on board what he's telling us in training," he said. "We're trying to do it, but it's not quite clicking. But it'll come. It's the second game of the season."
Fotheringham's goal was a his first since arriving at Carrow Road as a free agent back in January, and he admitted it had been a long time coming.
"I'm happy with it," he said. "It's about time I got on the scoresheet. I'm really happy to have the chance to play centre midfield. I know there's a lot of competition there, but I've always had that my whole career."
It was Mark Bishop's 'robust' challenge on Fotheringham which saw the Barnet defender red-carded in the closing stages of the game. But Fozzy admitted he knew little about the incident.
"To be honest, I didn't know what had happened," said the former Celtic man. "I didn't know much about it. I went up for a header and the next thing I knew I felt a pain on the side of my head."
