'IT WAS AN EASY CHOICE"
CITY'S new loan signing Matthew Pattison says it was an easy choice to leave Premiership Newcastle United for a spell with Glenn Roeder's Canaries.
Pattison was introduced to the media at Colney today after completing a loan switch which will see him in Norwich colours until January 1.
Asked if it was a tough decision to join a City side currently propping up the Championship, the 21-year-old midfielder replied: "I just wanted to come and play some football, so it was easy for me - an easy choice.
"I haven't seen much of the place - I've just been in the hotel mainly - but the training ground is lovely, just as good as Newcastle's and the lads are good. It's a good place to be."
Roeder felt comparisons drawn by reporters between Pattison and new Norwich Assistant Manager Lee Clark were not a million miles from the mark - and said his South African heritage brought with it a winning mentality similar to that which Clark had in spades during his illustrious playing career.
"Always wanting the ball; never frightened to make a mistake - give me the ball again. He wouldn't know what it is to hide. And Lee was the same. He can mix his range of passes up; can hit long passes or short as he sees the game. A very, very good young footballer.
"I know Newcastle is a rough, tough place to grow up. South Africa might be even tougher. He's certainly got an edge to him," said Roeder, who gave Pattison his first team break at St James' Park and believes the youngster didn't look out of his depth when thrown into the Premiership fray.
"He's certainly never been a player that plays with nerves or worries about things. He got on in a game against Chelsea and played the whole of the second half against Ballack - and Ballack knew he had been in a game, so our current situation won't bother him at all," said Roeder.
Meanwhile the Norwich boss told reporters he was hoping to bring in 'at least two more' loan signings before the next Championship clash at home to Coventry City on November 24.
"One of them is a lad who was signed for big money and hasn't really got as many chances to play as he would like so he would come here with a bit of a point to prove.
"I'm hoping to get these deals done but these days it seems as if a lot of managers go on holiday during the international break. Thankfully they take their phones with them so we hope to have the business concluded before the loan window shuts next week."
