CITY midfielder Darel Russell will be an interested spectator on Saturday when the Canaries go all out to get three points against Sheffield United.

If Norwich make it four wins out of five against the Blades, they could well find themselves out of the Championship's bottom three come ten-to-five.

Simply being out of the relegation zone for the first time in more than two months would give City another huge psychological lift, similar to the boost they received after the win over Plymouth pulled them off the foot of the table.

Russell, 27, will be able to play no part this weekend due to suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against former club Stoke last weekend.

But the tough-tackling midfielder believed Norwich had what it took to get the result they needed over Bryan Robson's inconsistent United side.

"Hopefully we can push ourselves even further up," he said. "We want to stay off the bottom now and get another positive result against Sheffield United. If a few other results go our way as well I think we could push up a good few places. It's about looking forward, not backwards."

Russell came up through the youth ranks at Carrow Road, making his debut as an 18-year-old before leaving for Stoke in the summer of 2003. Now much older and wiser than his first spell at the Club, Russell had some idea what teenage starlet Ched Evans was currently going through.

The 18-year-old, currently on loan from Manchester City, made himself an instant hero with his new fans after scoring just two minutes into his debut on Tuesday night in the 2-1 win over the Pilgrims.

His cool finish showed few nerves, and Russell believed it had laid the foundations for a repeat performance on Saturday.

"It was a great finish from the lad," he said. "To have a debut like that is good. I'm sure he enjoyed it and hopefully he can put another one away if he gets the chance on Saturday to help us build on this result."
