'ROBINS THERE ON MERIT'
CANARIES boss Glenn Roeder says his side will not be lulled into a false sense of security by the recent dip in form suffered by Saturday's high-flying opponents Bristol City (k.o. 3pm).
City travel to Ashton Gate buoyed by their excellent 5-1 win over Colchester at Carrow Road last weekend - and face a Robins outfit who have not won in their last five Championship games.
But despite media suggestions the Robins who currently sit in second position were 'wobbling', Roeder said: "Generally speaking the league table doesn't lie and Bristol are there on merit. They are very close now, very much in the home straight and they can see the winning line but they haven't got across it yet. They play good football and if we allow them to play it will be much more difficult for us.
"Gary Johnson has to be congratulated on the style of football that he asks his team to play. They are not one of the teams that smash the ball and take long throw-ins from the halfway line into your penalty box.
"His teams have always played a good game of football and i'm saying well done to Gary for having the belief and confidence in your team to play an attractive game of football, which is what we want to do.
"It has the makings of a very good game, but it will only be that if we come away with three points."
Meanwhile Roeder reported good news on the injury front with a relatively clean bill of health, although Juan Velasco (thigh) is still recovering and is set to join long-term absentees Luke Chadwick (shoulder) and Adam Drury (knee) on the sidelines.
Roeder was also keeping his options open regarding the subs' bench, following his bold decision to select five outfield players as subs for the Colchester game.
"I intend to be positive again, though whether I will include Gilks this time is something I will be considering," he commented, going on to reveal that Jason Shackell is the outfield player likely to deputise between the sticks in the event of an emergency with no sub 'keeper available.
