RAISE THE ROOF - HUCKS

Posted on: Sat 26 Apr 2008

CITY winger Darren Huckerby thinks the Canaries can get the three points they need to secure their Championship status when they entertain QPR on Saturday - with a little help from the fans.

The City faithful were in fine voice during an at times stormy encounter against West Brom at the weekend and with another full house expected for the visit of Rangers, Huckerby is hoping they will roar the team over the finishing line.

Speaking after Saturday's frustrating 2-1 defeat to the league leaders, Huckerby told CanariesWorld: "It's not a comfortable position to be in but like I say we've left ourselves with a chance with the home game next week and I think if we win that we will be safe so it is still up to us.

"There is still a lot to do but there is a big home game next week and the fans have got to raise the roof and lift us and hopefully we can go and get the points we need."

."We've got to win next week, we don't want it going to the last day of the season because Sheffield Wednesday will need the points as well. It's up to us to win the next home game."

Meanwhile Hukerby felt West Brom's first goal should have been cancelled out by the referee's whistle: "We are feeling a little bit hard done by. The replay of their first goal shows that Marshall clearly has both hands on the ball and their bloke falls on him and knocks it out of his hands, so that's a foul.

"I wouldn't say it changed the game but it put us on the back foot. But after that I thought we played really well even though we didn't get the result that we probably deserved.

"If you consider that they are top of the league, I thought that for large parts of the game we dominated it, created a lot of chances and on another day we might have scored two or three.

"I wouldn't say that's been the story of our season but scoring goals has been a problem for us."

Although satisfied with the performance, Huckerby said that was scant consolation at  a time of the season where points become priceless.

He commented: "We played some good stuff today, I wouldn't say out-played but at times we were at least on par with the top team in the league for long parts of the game. You can take heart from that but it's still not three points.

"It was an important game for them as well they needed the win to try and go up and we are fighting for our lives and for large parts of the game we were the better team today but that won't help us later on tonight when we don't have any points again."
