EAGLE SIGNS ONE-YEAR DEAL
ROBERT Eagle today signed a new one-year contract with the Canaries. The left footed midfielder made his Norwich City league debut under Peter Grant during the 06-07 campaign against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.
He went on to make 12 appearances during the season but has not managed to cement a place in Glenn Roeder's squad this season. However the City boss explained to the press last week that he had been impressed with Eagle on the training pitch.
"He's not a bad player because technically he's gifted and I think with a full year's working with us and working in the gym with a specific strengthening programme, although I don't think he is going to grow much taller, I think we can make Robert stronger and that will help him," he said.
"Left-footed players are quite rare and he has got a very nice left foot, quite cultured. He has earned the year with his attitude and his motivation to train and get another contract here."
Speaking exclusively to CanariesWorld, the 21-year old said how excited he was about signing the new contract.
"Glenn told me that i had been playing well in the reserves and been working hard so they were going to give a contract for next season. I am really excited.
"It's another year to work hard through the summer and come back stronger and fitter then I was last season and then hopefully get my chance to impress. I'm hoping to get in the gym everyday till when we start and hopefully come back alot stronger than I am now," said the midfielder.
"I've got to try to get a regular spot. There isn't alot of left-sided players here at the moment so hopefully that is my chance to take it and make it my own position."
Robert is a product of the Norwich City Academy, and saw a number of his academy colleagues released at the beginning of last week. As the winger starts his one-year deal he explained that he knew what a great chance this contract was for him.
"It was hard to see some of them go because they were my work mates and also people I spent time with outside of football. It was a bit of a shame but that's football really and you have to get on with it," he told CanariesWorld.
"Hopefully if I get my chance I can take it and do the best I can."
