DRURY WELL ON WAY TO RECOVERY
CITY defender Adam Drury continues to recover from his knee injury that has seen him miss seven months of football for the Canaries. Speaking after yesterday's Greatest Ever event at Carrow Road, Adam explained that his recovery would carry on whilst the majority of his team-mates were away on holiday.
"I'm going to have a lot of time on my own or with the physios doing rehab work and getting stronger. I'll be back in full training by the time the lads are back, a few of them are coming in a week early which they are delighted about so I can do full contact and join in properly."
"Basically I'll be ready to go on the first day of pre-season, hopefully with the stuff I'm doing now I should be one of the fittest there."
"They have given me a week or two off in June to go away as I haven't stopped now since I got injured. I haven't had any time off like the other lads who have had breaks and weekends off whereas I have been in every day, so I'll go off and have those couple of weeks off and then come back and train."
Throughout his injury spell it was hoped that Adam may have made it back in time to play a part in one of the last games of the campaign, but the City defender explained that after all the work that he and the physio team had done at Colney it could have been a risk that was not worth taking.
"I think it could have been perhaps if they really wanted to push me but at the end of the day it wasn't really worth the risk," said the left back.
"The idea was to make sure I was strong enough and get myself back for next season and pre-season. There was no point for the sake of one or two games to risk getting myself injured again as it's taken a long time for me to get back to where I am now, it's been about seven months."
"I feel good now, it's just frustrating that the rest of the lads have gone away on holiday. I want to join back in and I wanted to be doing ball work with them. At the minute I'm still in with a few of the other lads who have stayed behind and doing a bit with them."
The Norwich City players will return to training at the beginning of July. The pre-season training is often said to be the toughest of the year as the squad prepare for the season ahead, and Adam said for the first time he was actually looking forward to it.
"It is a funny thing to say but I am actually looking forward to pre-season, I never thought I'd say it but I can't wait now to get back and be part of it," he said.
"Although everyone has kept me involved you don't feel part of it no matter what you do. Obviously I haven't played or trained under the new gaffer or coaches so I'm itching to be back outside training with the lads."
There have been a number of changes at the Club during Adam's time on the touchline. With nine players being released after last season's campaign, Drury explained it had been a worrying time for him as he had yet to play under the new manager.
"It's been a risk for everyone, players and staff. Obviously when a new manager comes in he has his own ideas and tactics and his own way of doing things so you do worry about it and like I said I haven't played one game or trained for one day with the new gaffer so it's going to be like a new start for me when I come back," he said.
"It will be a bit like a new player coming in, he will obviously make his opinion of me when he sees me train when he sees me train and play. I've just got to go out and do the best I can."
