CITY TO PLAY MK DONS IN CARLING CUP
THE CANARIES will face MK Dons in the first round of the Carling Cup at the Stadium MK on Tuesday, August 12, kick-off scheduled for 7.45pm.
The sides last met in the Carling Cup competition in the 2005-06 season in which the Canaries won 1-0 after extra time in Milton Keynes.
MK Dons won the League Two title and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in the last campaign, and City Boss Glenn Roeder said he was positive about the prospect of playing the League One side: "MK Dons had an excellent season last year and it will be a game that we will look forward to."
Last season's Carling Cup campaign began with a 5-2 victory over Barnet at Carrow Road with goals from Mark Fotheringham, Simon Lappin, Darel Russell and a brace from Jamie Cureton.
The second round saw the Canaries travel to Rochdale, where after 90 minutes the sides were level at 1-1. Neither side found the back of the net in extra time so the tie went to penalties with City coming out on top winning 4-3.
The third round took Norwich to Manchester City. After a strong performance from the Canaries with a number of young players including Michael Spillane and Rossi Jarvis in action, the Premier League side went on to the fourth round thanks to a last minute winner from Georgios Samaras.
The Canaries have made the third round for the last three seasons and will be hoping for a strong campaign to make the fourth round for the first time since the 1995-96 season.
