CITY striker Chris Martin has told First News he is eager for pre-season training to start.

The Canaries begin their training in early July in preparation for the big Championship kick-off at Coventry on August 9.

Martin, who was officially opening Raw Mens Haircutters in Beccles with City legend and Community Ambassador Jeremy Goss, commented: "We've been working hard over the summer break, and I'm looking forward to getting back to training."

MARTIN - Hoping to cut it this season

Martin made seven first team appearances in the early stages of last season under Peter Grant but only three more followed after Glenn Roeder took over in November. Now the striker hopes to put himself back in contention by having a good pre-season.

"I want to try and force my way back into the first team. Last season was disappointing for me, and I want to put that behind me and force my way back into the manager's plans," the Canaries youngster told canaries.co.uk.

"I want to get back and prove to Glenn that I am ready this pre-season. I have worked hard and hopefully he can see that and that will be enough to make my way back in."
