CROFT ON SWEDISH SUCCESS

Posted on: Thu 24 Jul 2008

CITY'S Lee Croft has told canaries.co.uk that he was delighted to score the second goal in Norwich's 3-0 win against Falkerbergs.

Scoring in the 42nd minute, it was the 23-year-old's first goal since the game against Watford at Carrow Road in November last year. Croft told First News that he was determined to improve his scoring techinque in the 2008-09 campaign. "Clarkey and the Gaffer have been telling me I need to get in to the box more, so it was nice to get in there. The ball landed for me and I just had a swipe in there. That's something I want to work on this season and get a few more goals on my tally."

It was the second win for the Canaries whilst on tour in Sweden, and asked whether he thought the game was the best performance of the pre-season so far, the number seven shirt added: "Yes, I think so. There were some positives to come out of the game on Saturday, and then the gaffer said it was going to be tougher opposition in this game, and I think we stepped it up and it was even easier this time.

"It's all coming together nicely, the lads feel good, feel sharp, and we've got a really good pre-season so far under our belt. I think the lads feel fresh and we're ready to go already, and I think that was emphasised tonight."

Recent weeks have seen new faces come in to the Canaries squad, with the latest addition in the form of Arturo Lupoli. Croft was asked how he felt about Norwich attracting such names, as well as the increasing competition for places on the pitch. The former Manchester City star said: "The gaffer can attract players like that, he's a big name in English football. It's great that we can attract players like Lupoli, and not only him but also Elliot and Stefanovic from Fullham. We've also got Wes and Sammy who have come in and done well, so things are really looking up.

"The competition is nothing but a good thing, the gaffer's brought in some quality already and there's more going to be coming in. I think it's not only good for individuals to know that they must be on top of their game, but also good for the squad as a whole.

" We've got some very talented individuals now and in the end we just have to make sure that we continue to improve as the season goes on. We've got a great test against Tottenham coming up which I know we're all looking forward to, and then there's one more with Colchester at home until the season kicks off. So it's all positive signs."
