JED STEERS INTO ENGLAND SQUAD
CITY'S young goalkeeper Jed Steer has been called up for the England Under-17s squad for their forthcoming international tournament.
The first game for England of the tournament, on August 27, is against Portugal at Rushden and Diamonds Nene Park stadium. Other matches for England will see them meet Isreal and Italy.
Jed is currently with the Academy youngsters as they travel to Holland to compete in the RJC Cup tournament. Speaking exclusively to canaries.co.uk, the 15-year-old Academy regular Steer said he was delighted at his call-up. "It is a dream come true, I really couldn't be happier about it. It's an absolutely brilliant feeling and an opportunity to show my skills in front of national coaches, and I am completely over the moon."
Academy Director, Ricky Martin, made his support for Jed clear. "Myself and everyone at the Academy is delighted that Jed has been included in the under 19s tournament. It gives him the opportunity to show his skills and ability in front of national team staff in preparation for the European Championships later in the year."
Ricky was also delighted with the venues at which the tournament would take place. "The stadiums which have been chosen are all in the south east of England so it means that I and other Academy staff can get to view Jed whilst he's on national duty. Previous tournaments were in the North so logistically that would be harder to get to, but with it being in this region this time, it's easier for us to give Jed our support."
Steer follows a succession of goalkeeping stars to have come through the ranks at Norwich. City's current number 1, David Marshall is a Scottish international, and Robert Green won a call-up to the full England squad whilst contracted at Norwich. Most recently, ex-Norwich 'keeper Joe Lewis, now at Peterborough, saw himself earn a place in the England squad.
