'WE MUST PLAY WINNING FOOTBALL'
NORWICH boss Glenn Roeder is looking forward to a challenging game of football as City get ready to take on MK Dons.
After a disapointing result at the weekend, the Canaries are ready to prove themselves against the Dons as they meet in the first round of the Carling Cup.
A busy summer in the transfer market saw 11 new faces join Norwich, and Roeder is determined to show the quality of his team members. "There are some managers who don't put out their best team, I personally think that you should put out your best team every time you play, which we will do. I just want to warn our fans that we picked up injuries on Saturday and we will have three or four changes.
"MK Dons had a fantastic season last year," said a positive Roeder. "We have watched them a lot. Tomorrow, if their wingers get their heels right out on the touchline making the pitch as wide as possible in possession and leaving the two centre midfielders with lots of ground to cover, there will be lots of space to pass the ball in. It's important that we don't sit off them and let them make passes and build up their confidence - it's important that we get in amongst them and break up those passing movements."
Looking forward to stretching his team to their full potential, Roeder added:"It's nice to be going to a team outside the top two divisions that don't just thump into corners and press you in. It will make a good game of football, and I think that's what supporters want to see. You have to play winning football."
Roeder's most recent additon to the City squad, loan-signing Troy Archibald-Henville from Spurs, is yet to make his debut for Norwich. Asked for his thoughts on the youngster, the City boss commented: "He is very much a young player that looks like he'll probably need a few weeks to get to know us and for us to get to know him. He's done a lot of defensive work in training which he did well at. I can see him starting off on the bench a little bit more before breaking in to the team."
With Roeder recently remarking that he intends to bring a new striker to Carrow Road, he was asked whether he was any closer to completing this goal after the weekend's defeat at the Ricoh. "I can't be any more determined than I was before Saturday - he had a good weekend for the club that he's at, and he's the one we need. His club just need to keep their promise that they made to the player months ago."
