GLENN Roeder says a win against Blackpool at Carrow Road tomorrow would significantly boost his teams' confidence for the season ahead - and former Seasider Wes Hoolahan could have a significant role to play against his old club.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, the City boss said despite Blackpool not winning a game so far this season, tomorrow's match would still prove challenging for the Canaries.

"They were unbelievably unlucky against Bristol City, Bristol absolutely robbed them in injury time," said Roeder. "As for players, I thought that Hoolahan and Gorks were two of their better ones - whether they've replaced those two with players who are better we'll have to wait and see - I think Simon Grayson is really the person to ask about that. Obviously we've watched them, twice last week and once in their pre-season and they are doing OK, but they haven't won a game either.

Asked by reporters if it was important to try and score an early goal, Roeder said: "Unfortunately, the beauty of football is that you can't plan it minute by minute, otherwise it would be boring. Everyone would just turn up a minute before we were about to score!

"But obviously it would be nice to get off to a good start and have a home win in front of our fans, as it would really get us on the up."

Wes Hoolahan joined Norwich from Blackpool in July and as he prepares to play his old team at Carrow Road, the Canaries manager was asked whether he thought players performed any differently against their old clubs.

"Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. I think it depends on the character of the person - I think the best players do, as it gives them an extra edge.

"I don't think Wes has anything to prove to the Blackpool fans, or the manager and his staff. They did everything they could to hold on to him, I got the impression they were prepared to make him their highest-paid player they'd ever had, but he'd made his mind up that he wanted to leave and move on."

Looking ahead to Norwich's first home league game of the season Roeder was positive, adding: "I like to think Wes will be one of those players as he plays against his old side that really blossoms and has a fantastic game.

"If the players take their chances, we could be talking about what a great maker of goals he is because most of the chances we have created  so far have been from his final pass. He will make plenty of chances, we just need to get them in and hopefully he will chip in with five or six goals. Everyone in the team has to find the goal-scoring plain this year."
