ROEDER PLEASED WITH LUPOLI
GLENN Roeder says that the two goals scored by Arturo Lupoli against Cardiff have given the youngster an important boost in confidence.
The 21-year-old, on loan from Fiorentina, earned the Canaries their second point of the season when he scored both goals after coming on as a substitute in the second half.
"Obviously scoring those couple of goals has done him the world of good - one off his right foot which he admits isn't his strongest and a header which we didn't know he was so clever at," the Norwich manager said. "I would have thought his first goal would have come off his very good left foot which he's got. He's much happier this week, and now we have to wait and see whether he makes the starting line-up or not.
"I spoke to one of his previous Arsenal coaches and he said Arturo was a good little finisher, at times he can be a bit greedy but that's quite a good thing for a striker to have. He's not frightened to have a go at a defender and get the other side and get his shot away. I think since the moment he's been here, he's put a lot of effort into his game and his goals were a great result for him. He's relatively quiet around the place, I feel at times he is too hard on himself, too analytical about any mistakes that he makes and I think he dwells on it. In one way that's a good thing because it shows how much he cares, but in other ways it can hold you back and it can become a ball and chain around your leg."
One of the newest additions to the City team, Roeder said that Lupoli hasn't had the easiest of starts at his new club." It's been tough for him, to expect him to be at his best with one week's training at Fiorentina was asking an awful lot of him.
"It was always going to be difficult to put a new squad together - it wasn't just three or four, it was a dozen players coming together with the 8 or 9 still here. We knew we wouldn't have them all here by July 1 - surgery had to be done, players had to leave and we had to start again nearly from a blank piece of paper.
"That's not easy for new players coming in - John Kennedy said this week that he's learning about his partner, Stefanovic. Fortunately they're both excellent players who have gelled very well and they'll get better and better the more they play together. While that's happening, you want to be picking up results."
