NORWICH XI 2 IPSWICH TOWN XI 4
FORMER Norwich City players gathered at Carrow Road this afternoon for the Historical Trust Grand Player Reunion. The event began with over 40 ex-canaries being introduced to the crowd, including players such as Duncan Forbes, Sandy Kennon, Terry Allcock and Gary Holt. The main event kicked off at 3pm as an All Star Norwich City XI took on their East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town.
The game kicked off with Norwich playing towards the Barclay and it was the home side that took the lead in the 13th minute. A lovely one-two between Dale Gordon and Steen Nedergaard allowed Gordon to open the scoring as he slotted the ball past the Ipswich 'keeper. City legend Bryan Gunn was called into action a number of times keeping City in the lead. While at the other end of the pitch Louie Donowa had two good chances but failed to find the back of the Tractor Boys' net. The visitors drew level two minutes before the break after a cross deflected of Phil Chapple past Gunn to put the game level into the break.
The Canaries took the lead again after the break in the 55th minute when Matthew Halliday, playing in an attacking role for City, beat the Town offside placing the ball past Scott Peat into the bottom right corner. Town's manager for the day Simon Milton came on in the second-half and played a major role in Town's comeback. In the 68th minute the midfielder scored from close range to level the game and then again just two minutes later with a 25-yard shot that left Gunn with no chance as the ball made it's way into the bottom right hand corner. It was unlucky for Gunn who was having a fantastic match back between the posts at Carrow Road.
The Canaries pushed forward looking for an equaliser and Marcus Godbold was unlucky not to score after Peat made a good save to deny the youngster. Minutes later he went close again but this time his effort rattled the right-hand post. Steen Nedergaard made a great run late on laying the ball off to Roger Gibbons on the edge of the box but his effort was saved by the Town 'keeper.
With the last attack of the game Town made it four when Lubo Guentchev, scored from close range.
