CANARY midfielder Lee Croft says the City team need to maintain a winning mentality as they prepare to do battle with Barnsley at the Oakwell Stadium tomorrow.

After securing three points for the Canaries last weekend in their first home victory of the season, Croft added that Norwich must keep that frame of mind in order to add more points to their tally.

"It's been a good week, I've been enjoying training and I'm looking forward to the next game now," he said. "The last game was brilliant, especially the way we won it against a top team like Sheffield United, it was a big confidence boost. We need to take that away to Barnsley now.

"Obviously you think about good things you do in games all the time, as well as when you maybe don't do such good things - you think about that and how you can improve. When you do good things and you score a goal, you do remember it and we need to do that tomorrow, considering the good things we did last week and try and re-enact them again in the following game."

With the Canaries now in the top half of the table, 23-year-old Croft said he was pleased City are upwardly mobile: "It's great, it's nice when you look at the table and see that, and I'm sure if we win tomorrow we'll shoot up another few places as well, so that's the way we need to look at it. We have to look forward instead of looking down and I'm sure that's what we'll all be doing."

The midfielder told canaries.co.uk City were determined to bring home all six points as they prepare for two away games in a week - despite both Barnsley and Southampton being under pressure to do well at home to kick-start their seasons. Croft said: "Going away from home is never easy but we'll treat it as a home game - go out and attack and we usually play well at Barnsley. The last few years we've scored a fair few goals there and we've got some good results.

"Southampton away, we got a good result there last year so hopefully we can now do that again. They're under pressure to do well at home like we were, and luckily we've come out on the other side on the back of a good away win and gaining points away from home. We've got our first home win and they'll be striving for that, but we'll have to make sure we don't allow them to do that.

"I think we look a lot more solid and at times even when we're under the cosh, we don't look like we're under real danger. I think we've been playing well at the back, we look look like we can create things as well so I think it's a different mentality. We're not afraid to go away from home, we just play as if it's a home game."

Croft added further thoughts on tomorrow's rivals, saying they shouldn't be underestimated: "You can't take your foot off the gas, you've got to treat it as if it's a cup final really. We won't be able to rest on our laurels, we've got to continue and put in another good performance if we're going to come away with three points. If I get a goal, I'll be delighted."
