LEROY'S HIGH HOPES FOR CITY
CITY'S latest signing Leroy Lita said he found it an easy choice to make when the opportunity to join the Canaries on loan came his way.
After joining Norwich earlier this week on a month-long deal, the Reading striker told reporters he had high hopes for his time at Carrow Road.
"It's a big club, everybody knows about the place and the potential that it's got so it wasn't a hard decision," the 23-year-old said. "The manager spoke to my agent and he was desperate for me to come down, I wasn't playing at Reading so it was an easy decision to make.
"Reading are doing well so it's hard to get in at the moment but I've got a chance to play here so I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully we'll do well and win the game tomorrow, and I hope I'll score some goals and help the team push on. I know the fans here are desperate for the team to do well and the manager and everyone around the place is too, so hopefully I can be a part of that."
With just one month at City, Leroy was asked whether he had to hit the ground running in order to prove himself here. He answered: "I know the league, I look forward to playing here. Derby are a good team and it will be a tough game tomorrow - I've only played against them once and I scored then so I'd like to do the same tomorrow. I'm not looking beyond tomorrow to be honest, I'm just looking forward to playing and we'll take it from there. I take each game as it comes and hopefully I'll do well for the team and help them push on.
"I spoke to my friends and my family and they said it was the best thing for me to come down to the club. I spoke to Alex Pearce who was here last season on loan, he said that he really enjoyed it and told me to come down here. It's a massive club because Norwich get 25,000 fans which is great for this league and it shows such great support."
At his pre-match press conference in preparation for tomorrow's clash with Derby County, City boss Glenn Roeder told media he was pleased to have secured the signature of Lita, after having his eye on the player for weeks. He commented: "He's starting training today but I know from my sources at Reading that he's fully fit and he can't wait to get going. It's a great opportunity for him to come and score a few goals.
"I've been interested in Leroy for the past month or more and I finally got a breakthrough just before the game on Tuesday night. He's strong, quick and he's got a very good proven record. He's a young player who's still improving and who has ambitions of being a Premiership striker, so there are all the right ingredients for him to do well for us."
The manager was asked for his thoughts on how Leroy would work alongside Antoine Sibierski. He replied: "I think it would make sense and he'd be able to pick up on some of Sibierski's flicks as well as getting himself on the ball that's slid down the side to him anyway.
"He's a very hardworking player and he helps the team out with how hard he works when we're not in possession of the ball."
